DAAN ROMEIN - VOCALS, GUITAR
SIGER RIDDERSMA - GUITAR, BACKING VOCALS
PATRICK LINTHORST - BASS
THOMAS VAN NOORDEN - DRUMS
This four man band from Groningen has been making music since the summer of 2004. The alternative-rock combines powerful metal riffs and more subtle guitar parts and intricate drum patterns. Changing time signatures and the use of unexpected breaks and sound effects are other strong points. Tarball's vocals are characterized by emotional melodies with violent outbursts and its main force on stage is a dynamic and surprising show with lead singer Daan as the absolute focal point.
The band was formed after Daan and Siger met on the internet. Daan brought in Thomas on drums who knew bass player Dennis. Right from the start there has been a real chemistry between the guys. Every band member has an equal share in writing and most songs come out of jam sessions. Someone (most often Daan) comes up with a riff, a chord progression or a whole idea for a song. These bits and pieces then get knocked about as the others add their own ideas and sometimes change keys or time signatures. In really inspired rehearsals songs can be finished within three hours while at other times a missing ingredient isn't found until weeks later.
In January 2005, after rehearsing for about four months, the band decided that they wanted to see if the chemistry would work as well on stage as it did in the rehearsal room. Tarball's first gig was at an annual band competition in Groningen, called 'Het Rode Oortjes Festival'. Much to their surprise they won their qualifying round. This was their first show ever and the band was overwhelmed by the great response by both the audience and the jury. Tarball came in second in the final and again response was great. Since then the band has been making a name for itself by playing a lot of gigs in and around Groningen with a place at the finals of "De Groninger Popprijs 2006" on Club Vera's main stage as the highlight of the stages played. In March 2006 Tarball released it's first, self produced demo cd titled 'Mine to Take'. It was very well received and resulted in lots of gigs around the country.
In June 2006 Dennis announced he had to quit the band, a decision all members regretted. A replacement was found in Patrick. Since then the band has been playing even more gigs in all kinds of venues in Holland and Germany.
In 2008 Tarball recorded their new EP ’Bite the Bullet’, together with mixer/ producer Guido Aalbers. Their EP was mastered by Darius van Helfteren at Studio Wisseloord, The Netherland’s most well known studio. The three tracks represent the band’s dynamic sound and will certainly bring the band to a higher level!
